Made a Resolution to Lose Weight? Let's Share Tips

Happy New Year! Have you made any resolutions? I have, once again, vowed to lose weight. Only this year I’ve added a second part to my resolution – to keep the weight off. It seems that every year I lose that pesky 10 pounds by the spring only to have it suddenly appear again in the fall. I really believe my body wants to pack it on so it can hibernate all winter.

I know I am not the only one who wants to lose weight and keep it off this year, so I thought I would share some information I’ve found as I searched the web today.

The Alliance for a Healthier Generation at www.healthiergeneration.org/parents.aspx?id=158 has great information for parents on lots of topics to keep children healthy. They have information on how to choose healthier items at fast food restaurants, controlling portion sizes, tips for dealing with picky eaters, and lots more.

And, for us moms, the American Heart Association Healthy Lifestyles web pagesat www.americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=1200009 is a great place to find tips on diet and exercise. They even have a body mass index calculator. If you click on “You are What You Eat” and go to the No Fad Diet, you can find a calorie calculator that tells you how many calories you need to maintain your weight, something we need to know so that we can figure out how many calories we have to cut to lose weight. To get their directly, go to www.americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=3031815.

Have you also made a resolution to lose weight? Let’s share some tips and tricks to not only lose the weight but keep it off and finally live that healthy lifestyle we want.

I tried South Beach, too! The first week was really hard. I have the South Beach Diet Quick cookbook and it has some great recipes.

I don't diet, but I did try the South Beach Diet for a week. I lost 5 lbs. and now I know what works for me. It was the hardest week of my life, by the way, considering I was grew-up vegetarian and I can't live without carbs. It was worth it. I also believe it is about making healthy lifestyle changes.
