Cheryl Jo Is anyone out there sick?

Ughhh, it is that time again, and the Allin family is SUPER sick. I must admit that it has been over two years since I have been this sick, but yuck! When I worked in the school system my children and I were always catching a little something or other, with the occassional big sickness a couple times a year. But, we have been basically flu free for 2 years! (Dad brought this one home!)

Now what is it about moms that always put their kids first? Now that I am half way better, I

Michelle Evans Jarrell Snow Beach

For most of my life I have dreamed of living on the coast. I have enjoyed family vacations to Myrtle Beach for as long as I can remember and longed for the day when I could permanently plant my feet in some sunny, Southern sand. Each move for Ryan's job has taken us further East, and for the past 5 months, my young boys and I have had the pleasure of calling the coastal city of Wilmington, North Carolina (the Port City) our home. Being locals, we have experienced all the eccentricities of coasta… Continue

Michelle Evans Jarrell We're moving again! (and No, we're not Military)

The boys are back and on the road again! After some time away from blogging (the boys keep me on the go), I have decided to commit to this blogging thing (notice the new title, still subject to my whim). Blogging might be my only friend for a while because the latest news is that we are moving AGAIN!

This will make our 3rd move in 16 months. From Charlotte, to Fayetteville, to Wilmington, oh my! The lucky new city is Savannah, Georgia, and I am thrilled we will still be able to enjoy… Continue

Michelle Evans Jarrell Revving Up Metabolism

Some of us mothers have already met the little signs of aging such as laugh lines and crows feet, but probably one of the most dreaded enemies of women over 30 is decreased metabolism.

Aside from excercise and healthy eating, there are a few other things (food things!) you can add to your regimen to help you lose weight and keep it off! Check out the following article that appeared on MSN.com today:

Cheryl Jo Ice Storm Stories

Our family and friends went to the mountains of NC to see snow. That's right, who would've guessed that it was going to snow here the day we were to leave! So, the trip was postponed one day, but we made it there with no problems.

The kids tried to ski for the first time while we were there, but the slope was ice and they slipped all over. Needless to say that didn't last long! We did see beautiful waterfalls, went on hikes and gem mining, and the day before we left got hit wit

Victoria Allen "I want to do it myself"

Natalie decided she wanted to put her own jammies on Sunday night. Joe and I were watching TV around her bedtime, and she told us that she wanted to put her "Dora" on (she loves her new Dora the Explorer pajamas). Joe tried to help, but she kept telling him "No, daddy. I want to do it myself." She go her pants off, no problem, but had trouble with the shirt. I don't know what was funnier, watching her try to pull the shirt off from the bottom, getting stuck in the shirt, or Joe and me trying to… Continue

Cheryl Jo Free Disney Tickets...

If you personally know me, you know that I love Disney World! There is something magicial about that place that takes me back—waaayyy back—to the good ole’ days! And this year Disney is promoting volunteerism by offering those willing to "give back" a free one-day ticket! In these tight economic times, what could be better! “Volunteers must choose from a list of pre-approved volunteer opportunities and then perform a full-day of verified, volunteer service (or more) in order to qualify. Opport… Continue

Cheryl Jo Elite Training Center

Below is the information for the new homeschool program. I have seen Hakim teach and my kids have done martial arts before at other places, and I am very impressed with him and his teaching style. The kids and I will be attending the free class, and think we will join. Please email me if you have any questions or want more information as I am helping him coordinate this, and feel free to pass this along to all other homeschoolers. Not a homeschooler? There are tons of classes that… Continue

Cheryl Jo North Star Animal Hospital--they go above and beyond..

Living in the Fayetteville area for what seems like forever, I get a chance to visit many businesses. Never have I found one to be as kid friendly as North Star Animal Hospital. Dr Irwin is fabulous with the animals AND the kids, and enjoys teaching them about being a vet. She graciously allowed my family and 3 more to tour the facility, watch a few procedures, and even go get a horse from the pasture. One of the procedures that the kids saw was a dog being neutered...and boy did we have alot o… Continue

Michelle Evans Jarrell Candy-colored carpet

My mornings are usually a little bit chaos with a dash of crazy, but things really seem to get off to the wrong start when the boys wake me up first. I really need to force myself to get out of bed when I hear Ryan leave for work, but up until recently, my youngest was still waking at least once every night wanting a bottle or a diaper. Camden (3 years) and Cavan (18 months) wake up between 6:30 and 7:30 every morning. I can hear Cavan in his crib "whoo, whooing" and laughing to himself. He is a… Continue

Michelle Evans Jarrell High-speed chases never end well

Just to refresh your memories, I have two boys (Camden 3, and Cavan 17 months). Right now we are in the stage where every routine involving diapering, dressing, brushing teeth, or washing hands is an epic battle. I have tried everything, from singing songs to dangling shiny toys in front of their eyes, to try and slow them down long enough to change a diaper or wipe a nose. Hygiene is the biggest challenge we are facing now as far as I'm concerned. I can handle it if they can't yet grasp the con… Continue

Maureen McKeon When Did Our Children's Safety Become Optional?

Lately I've been wondering if our busy lives aren't causing us to sacrifice the safety of our most precious resource - our children. Every morning I drive through three school zones, and every morning I see lots of drivers speeding and weaving through traffic in those school zones. All while the children are walking along the sidewalk or standing at the curb waiting to cross. Are we so busy that we can't slow down for a minute or two to make sure our children are safe? Is getting to our destina… Continue

Melissa Carmona Downtown Fayetteville

Hey Fellow Moms, I've been here going on 2 years but never really explored for the holidays around here...I'm orginally from New York so I only know about NY. Anyways, this year I would like to go downtown for New Year's. Is there anything going on there for that time of year? I ask cuz I don't feel like being in my house like last year. I'm not saying I expect a ball to drop at midnight but just something for my husband, son, and I to enjoy. Thanks in advance. Melissa Continue

Victoria Allen "Happy Turkey Day" is done now

Natalie spent the better part of Thanksgiving dinner at mom's saying "Happy Turkey Day." She spent Friday doing the same, even when we told her it wasn't "Turkey Day" anymore. She recognizes Santa Claus this year, and she's said Merry Christmas a few times. She likes Christmas lights, so I'm excited about going out in the next few weeks as more houses get decorated. Im also planning on taking her to visit Santa this year. Not sure if she'll be OK with it or if she'll be one of those kids who f… Continue
