My first semester as a college mom is almost over. As I helped my oldest daughter set up her dorm room in August, her Thanksgiving break seemed so far away. Now it is almost here, and I don't know where the time went. This first semester has been a rollercoaster of emotions - for both of us.

When my oldest daughter was 2, she decided she wasn’t going to ride in her stroller anymore. Nothing I did could convince her to get back in, so from that day forward, we went everywhere at the pace of a two year old! When she was 8, she decided she didn’t need to take the bus home from school anymore. Unfortunately, she told us that by walking home one day along a busy road that crossed a freeway! Happy New Year! Have you made any resolutions? I have, once again, vowed to lose weight. Only this year I’ve added a second part to my resolution – to keep the weight off. It seems that every year I lose that pesky 10 pounds by the spring only to have it suddenly appear again in the fall. I really believe my body wants to pack it on so it can hibernate all winter.

There are good days and bad days. On the good days everything falls into place. The teenage girls ask my advice, the 9 year old boy hugs me and tells you how much he loves me, and I am on top of the world. I'm Mom and it feels pretty good. Then there are days like today.
