When Did Our Children's Safety Become Optional?

Lately I've been wondering if our busy lives aren't causing us to sacrifice the safety of our most precious resource - our children.

Every morning I drive through three school zones, and every morning I see lots of drivers speeding and weaving through traffic in those school zones. All while the children are walking along the sidewalk or standing at the curb waiting to cross. Are we so busy that we can't slow down for a minute or two to make sure our children are safe? Is getting to our destina… Continue

Surviving the First Semester as a College Mom

My first semester as a college mom is almost over. As I helped my oldest daughter set up her dorm room in August, her Thanksgiving break seemed so far away. Now it is almost here, and I don't know where the time went. This first semester has been a rollercoaster of emotions - for both of us.

The nervous freshman that we said goodbye to in Arizona has been replaced with a confident young woman preparing to take on the world. So much has happened since she left, it sometimes seems like she's been… Continue

Partnership for Children Hosts John Rosemond "Parenting the Strong Willed Child"

When my oldest daughter was 2, she decided she wasn’t going to ride in her stroller anymore. Nothing I did could convince her to get back in, so from that day forward, we went everywhere at the pace of a two year old! When she was 8, she decided she didn’t need to take the bus home from school anymore. Unfortunately, she told us that by walking home one day along a busy road that crossed a freeway! She did it two more times before her principal and I were able to convince her it wasn’t smart. At… Continue

Made a Resolution to Lose Weight? Let's Share Tips

Happy New Year! Have you made any resolutions? I have, once again, vowed to lose weight. Only this year I’ve added a second part to my resolution – to keep the weight off. It seems that every year I lose that pesky 10 pounds by the spring only to have it suddenly appear again in the fall. I really believe my body wants to pack it on so it can hibernate all winter.

I know I am not the only one who wants to lose weight and keep it off this year, so I thought I would share some information I’ve fo… Continue

Good Days Make up for Bad Days

There are good days and bad days. On the good days everything falls into place. The teenage girls ask my advice, the 9 year old boy hugs me and tells you how much he loves me, and I am on top of the world. I'm Mom and it feels pretty good. Then there are days like today. The girls are cranky. The boy drags his feet going to the bus. Even the cats are crying! On the bad days, I think about why I am a Mom. The hours are long. The pay is low. The work is never done. Yet, I would never consider not… Continue

Thank you for inviting me to Partnership for Children. Camden, Cavan and I attended the storytime and art event for young children on March 6th. We had a wonderful time. It was a relief to get out of the house and meet other moms with young children. Camden enjoyed art time, and we checked out some blocks to take home as well! Way to go PCCC! I will sing your praises. By the way if you still would like me to volunteer or do any advocacy work for you, please let me know how I can help! Michelle

Thanks, Maureen! Our family just moved to Fayetteville for my husband's job (I had to leave my job as an adjunct music instructor in Charlotte). I googled Fayetteville moms and found this site. Actually, I am looking for a way to earn a little extra income as a freelance writer, though I might be able to find some time to volunteer. In Charlotte I worked as a musician, but I first went to school to study communications. If you are interested in having me write for you occasionally, let me know. I have also completed a 1200-word article on NC's new two-component licensing system that might be useful to many of your clients...
