As we thaw out from our winter weather, now is a good time to sign up for some area events that can benefit moms and children. Some deadlines for registration are coming up, so be sure you don’t miss out.
Downtown Fayetteville’s newest yoga studio, Embrace Yoga Studio, will offer mommy and baby yoga classes beginning Feb. 13. The classes will be taught by Dauphine Sisk, OTD, OTR/L. The four-week series continues through March 13, and the cost is $40 in advance or $45 the first day of class.
Little Yogi’s 1 is scheduled to meet Saturdays from 8:30 to 9:15 a.m., and is for children ages 6 weeks to nearly crawling. This class will use nurturing and playful yoga to promote infant development.
Little Yogi’s 2 is scheduled to meet Saturdays from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m., and is for children who are adept crawlers to 24 months of age. The course will help toddler ease some stress for both them and you, and will teach about toddlers’ developmental processes and promote their emerging skills.
According to the event press release, Dauphine Sisk has studied the development of typical and special needs children since 1994. She is also in the Teacher Training program at Om Yoga Studio.

Don’t forget the annual Girl Scout cookie sale, continuing through March 14. Girls will be out beginning this weekend selling cookies at booths in front of area stores. For more information, go to www.nccoastalpines.org.
If you’re an unmarried woman (maybe even a daddy’s girl) who likes to spend quality time with the father-figure in your life, there’s an event later this month just for you. Crossroads Church, Lillington campus, is has scheduled a free Father/Daughter Princess Ball from 5 to 7 p.m. Feb. 20.
The event is open to all unmarried ladies and their father or other significant male father figure. This includes grandfathers, step fathers and uncles. The ladies and their fathers enjoy hors d’oeuvres and dancing.

Are you a shopper? Do you have several gently used items that you’re looking to sell? There are several consignment sales taking place in March.
The Hugs and Kisses Consignment sale is scheduled from March 3-6 at the old Linens-n-Things location on Skibo Road.
Items for the sale are needed, as are volunteers. There is a 24-hour drop-off time for items for sale. Debit and credit cards will be accepted at the event.

The Northwood Temple Church MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) have opened volunteer and consignor registration for the “Twice Is Nice” Children’s Consignment Sale. The sale is scheduled to open to the public March 20 at the Northwood Temple Family Life Center (4200 Ramsey St.). The sale will run from 7 to 11 a.m. and will reopen from noon to 3 p.m. for a 50-percent off clearance sale.

Proceeds from the sale support the Northwood Temple Church MOPS and TeenMOPS chapters, and unsold donated merchandise is distributed to local pregnancy crisis support agencies and other charities. Tickets are on sale for the Child Advocacy Center’s American Girl Fashion Show scheduled for March 20 and March 21 at the Crown Coliseum.
The program showcases historical and contemporary fashions for girls and their dolls. Tickets are $30 per person and are available on the Child Advocacy Center Web site, www.childadvocacycenter.com, or by calling 486-9700.
Proceeds from the event benefit the Child Advocacy Center’s child abuse prevention and outreach programs. The Child Advocacy Center provides a safe, child friendly place where community agencies come together to interview and investigate cases of child abuse and to provide support for abused children. The Child Advocacy Center also provides education in the community on preventing, detecting and reporting child abuse to parents, businesses, organizations and professionals.
