Thanks so much for sharing your story, "MomMarla." I'm truly sorry for your loss.

I loved your spider cake story. What a hoot! It brings back so many similarly silly stories about my mom.

Thanks again for sharing,
Mary

This year was the first Mother's Day without my mom. On January 10, 2009 she lost her battle with Leukemia at the age of 59. I have not lived near my mom for many years, however my phone has been, sadly, quieter. I could always count on her to call regularly to see what the family and I were up to, get the latest on the boys, give my husband a run for his money and tell me the latest family "gossip"

I think some of the best memories I have are of her with my oldest son Jimmy. She adored him so much that when, at the age of two he requested a chocolate cake with spiders on it, my mom went out of her way to make it to order – licorice spiders and all. My son beamed with surprise when the cake came out ... what a joy to see them both so happy. I only wish my children got to spend more time with their Nana.

I miss my mom so much, but I am glad I have so many fond memories of her. Yes, I shed a tear from time to time, however I feel good knowing she is in a better place looking down on us. I only hope that I can be as good a mom to my boys as she was to me.

My Mom is pretty special to me and my oldest daughter. Originally from California, I married a military man, and soon found myself living almost 3000 miles from home.

When I became pregnant with our first child, my mom made plans to be with us with her newest grandchild would be born.

The military always seemed to know when I wanted my husband home most, so my due date corresponded with field time here on Bragg. Cpt, O'Dowd promised me that first babies take longer and as soon as I was admitted to the hospital, call the CQ and they would get my husband out of the field and to the delivery room asap.

Well, they tried, and he almost got there in time, but thru it all, my mom was by my side, being my birth coach and having me focus and breathe.

She held my daughter before I did, and laughed when the doctor commented on her red hair. Seems there were red heads galore in both sides of the family trees.

To this day (24 years later) my daughter and mom share a special link. It makes me happy!

OK, I'll share a story about my Mom to get things started ... (I hope others will share their stories -- everything from heartfelt to hilarious)

Following my wedding ceremony in 1999, I sat down with my mom as the recieving line dwindled. Without us noticing, my aunt snapped a quick picture of us talking.

Just a couple of months later, that photo was on a shelf close to my mom's hospice bed. I commented about how much love was in our eyes in the picture. "No," my mom said. "I don't just love you. I adore you."

It has been almost 10 years since my mom died, but I smile when I pass the hutch in my living room, where that picture of adoration is displayed.
