My husband and I are considering adoption. We already have a 6-year-old who is wonderful and we believe God may be calling us to adopt a child rather than have another biological child. We are at the stage of fact-finding, and most importantly seeking to discern God's will and timing in this. As we learn more, I'd love to share it with you. I'd also really like some advice from parents who've "been there, done that."

Though we personally believe we are called to adopt a "waiting child" who is in the American foster care system and is already at least 4 years old, this group is certainly meant to include couples who did or plan to adopt an infant or toddler from overseas.

There are many adoption agencies out there and I don't know much about any of them yet and won't endorse a specific one. Our only experience is through attending a seminar recently through the Children's Home Society of North Carolina. You can find more information at their Web site: www.chsnc.org and see a list of "waiting children". Make sure you grab a box of tissue as you look.

Please help me get this group started and I really look forward to learning from you!

Congratulations Jen. What a blessing your family will be to another child and how courageous of you and your husband to move forward and "act" on what God is calling you to do.

We recently have became foster parents and I am going through the State certification process. I must say that the MAPP class is very enlightening and also reassuring. Things I am learning... sometimes my heart breaks to know that so many children deal and experience so much heartache and pain before the age of 3. It is not an easy task to raise a child that is your own and the challenges that will come from raising one as your own will strengthen you beyond belief.

Stay spiritually filled, communicate openly, and because God has called you to this it will prove to be a most fulfilling journey.
